History Bulloch Hall Quilt Guild was founded in 1985 by ten women taking a Heritage Class in quilting at Bulloch Hall in Roswell, Georgia. Since its inception the Guild has become a conduit of encouragement and creativity through monthly meetings and workshops led by local as well as national and international teachers. In 2000 the Guild outgrew its meeting space at Bulloch Hall and began meeting at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Johns Creek, Georgia. The membership is limited to 65 members. Guild members officially met on Zoom during the Covid-19 Pandemic months of 2020-2021.
Quilt Guild members participate in outreach to local, national and international needs through donations of quilts to children’s health care facilities, Veteran service associations (Quilts of Valor), weather-related disaster areas, family focus non-profit groups such as Habitat for Humanity, Drake House, and more. Guild members have been known to jump into action when additional special needs are made known such as fellow quilters’ supplies after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Bulloch Hall has been the site of 38 annual quilt shows (from 1982 to 2020). After the retirement of Bulloch Hall’s show manager in 2000, the Quilt Guild took over management of the ten-day show. Usually, 200 or more quilts, old and new, antique and contemporary, were on view at each show, making colorful displays throughout the historic house while observing appropriate care and respect for the premises and grounds.
By presenting a quilt show year after year in March, with beautiful blossoms around the grounds of Bulloch Hall, we developed an activity which brought quilters and travelers to the City of Roswell. We also connected with other quilters to bring unique traveling quilt exhibits to Roswell: in 2018 we showed “Inspired by the National Parks” continuing the 2016 celebration of the 100th anniversary of our National Park System. In 2020 we presented a quilted art collection entitled “Inspired by Endangered Species”. Both special exhibits were collected and curated by Donna Desoto, Fairfax, VA. 8/25/2021
